My name is Drew Thomas and I’m the creator of Fun In the Yard, your one stop site for all your outdoor games, sports, party activities, outdoor gear, and lawn & gardening tips.
A couple years ago, my family and I decided it was time to move out of the apartment we had been living in for years and upgrade into a house. I have 3 autistic children who are not very good with change, so many factors and decisions came into play when deciding to move.
One of the major reasons for wanting to move is I wanted to give my children a big backyard so they can have fun and play outdoors. Up until this time, we had only lived in apartments.
I remember when I was a child, I would play outdoors all day and not come inside until after it was dark outside. I also grew up playing sports every year.
I played Baseball from the time I was in tee ball, all the way up through high school. I played Soccer and Football a couple years while I was in middle school. When I got a little older, I started getting interested and played some Disc Golf, Lacrosse and Golf.
I wanted my children to have a place that they explore the outdoors and have fun as well. I didn’t want them to stay inside and play video games all day.
This was the best decision my wife and I made!
Once we moved, it felt like we had new children. They wanted to go outside all the time. We loaded up our backyard with all kinds of outdoor games, activities, slip n slides, and sports equipment. Every day after school and most weekends, we are outdoors playing games or having BBQ picnics.
Now, with a house comes more outside responsibility. Lawn maintenance and gardening is something I thought I wouldn’t enjoy until I actually got out to do it. I went and bought all the latest mowing supplies and learned how to make our lawn look beautiful with a nice garden.
My goal for the site is to share what I have learned as I live the backyard life and find games, products, tools, and ideas that work the best so you can enjoy your outdoor space as well.
When I’m not working on this website, I also enjoy publishing articles on my other website at visitorlandowithkids.com where I share theme park tips, attraction guides and travel related gear for Orlando Florida.
